Victor Osimhen is yet to attain full fitness after his injury and illness, Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso has said.

He was a 54th-minute substitute for Andrea Petagna on Saturday as Napoli lost 2-1 to Genoa in Serie A.

Osimhen contracted COVID-19 weeks after he recovered from a shoulder injury, which sidelined him for almost three months.

 “Osimhen was out for several months, he had COVID-19 and a shoulder injury, so he’s not at 100 percent,” Gattuso said.

“We don’t have a magic wand, but he’s showing some glimmer of hope.

“We know his qualities, but he has barely played for us this season.”

The 22-year-old striker has scored twice in eight Serie A appearances since his record-breaking transfer in the summer from Lille.
