All eyes are on the summer transfer window at Arsenal after a miserable end to the season meant the Gunners had to settle for a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta and Edu are in need of a new forward with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to depart. Gabriel Jesus is understood to be their top target, with the Manchester City man “uncertain” about his future.

The club is also chasing Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrick Schick was also on Arteta’s radar before he penned a new deal with the German side on Thursday. There could also be some outgoings this summer, with William Saliba admitting he would like to return to Marseille before Arteta insisted he “has to come back”.

Arsenal has previously been linked with Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar but could never nail down a deal for the Frenchman.

The 23-year-old’s stock has been on the rise and he’s broadcasted his qualities on the Champions League stage previously. Lyon was seeking north of £40m for the player – which priced him out for several clubs. The Gunners have retained an interest and could now land him for a cut-price fee.

Aouar could leave Lyon for as little as £13m, according to RMC Sport. The Frenchman has remained a regular for the Ligue 1 outfit however he has refused to sign a new deal at Lyon and will be available to leave for nothing next summer. Arsenal recently saw Mohamed Elneny pen a new deal at the Emirates.

Eddie Nketiah contract

Eddie Nketiah has reportedly changed his mind about leaving Arsenal and is ready to sign a new contract with the club.

Nketiah’s current deal expires on July 1 and he has rejected previous approaches from the Gunners. However, The Athletic reports that he ‘is on the verge’ of penning a new deal, rather than joining interested clubs like West Ham and Crystal Palace.

He will follow Mohamed Elneny in committing his future to Arsenal. Nketiah’s commitment will leave Alexandre Lacazette as the only remaining out-of-contract player at the club.

Marseille’s Saliba stance

Marseille will open talks with Arsenal about making William Saliba’s loan move permanent after Mikel Arteta said he must return to the Emirates next season.

The Spaniard made it clear the defender “has to come back” to his parent club when his loan deal at Marseille expires as he plans to reintegrate the defender into his side next season. Saliba has expressed his desire to extend his stay in the south of France, however, as he looks to play Champions League football after an impressive campaign where he was named Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Year.

Arsenal has promised the center-half that he will have an ‘integral role’ in Arteta’s side, according to L’Equipe. The north Londoners also want to extend his current contract which runs out in 2024 to prove to the rising star that he is a part of the club’s long-term plans.
