Haaland could snub Europe’s elite to stay at Dortmund

Erling Haaland could be set to disappoint a host of Europe’s top clubs by staying with Borussia Dortmund beyond this season.

The in-demand striker, 21, is one of football’s hottest properties having previously been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea.

The Norwegian appeared set to leave the German club before the summer transfer window slammed shut but Sport Bild now claims he could stick around at the Signal Iduna Park for longer than expected.

Pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft insists his compatriot remains uncertain about his future.

The former Middlesbrough striker told Bild Live: “I think the Haaland team and the family don’t know where he’s going. The football world is changing. There are so many things that affect that.

“They don’t know where he will play in the 2021-22 season.

“Haaland and his team are always looking for development. And if that is the case in Dortmund, he will stay there.”

Haaland has netted a stunning 68 goals in 67 games since signing for Dortmund from FC Salzburg in January 2020.

There has been much discussion over the hitman’s £64million release clause, which becomes active next summer, while his contract expires in 2024.

Atletico join race for Werner

Atletico Madrid is reportedly the latest club to express an interest in Chelsea striker Timo Werner.

The German was a £47m signing from RB Leipzig last year but struggled during his first season in England.

He initially found himself behind Romelu Lukaku in the pecking order this term but Thomas Tuchel has recently deployed both strikers in his starting XI.

Borussia DortmundBayern Munich, and Juventus are thought to be interested in Werner as they look to help him rediscover the prolific form he showed in Germany prior to his switch to London.

And Transfer Market Web claim Atletico is the latest club to join the race for his signature should Chelsea decide to sell.

The 25-year-old has started Chelsea’s last two Premier League games and was on target as the European champions beat Southampton 3-1 on Saturday.

But his overall record is slightly underwhelming, with just 13 goals in 59 games since joining the West London outfit.

He did finish 2020-21 with a Champions League medal after starting in the final but has been regularly criticized for missing a hatful of chances.

And it has been suggested a move elsewhere could help reignite his career.
